More On Our Pampered Pooches
Well, we have had the Pom's for several months now, and as expected they have become family!
Missy, has chosen my husband, Ralph for her human, and Cody has become my little shadow.
Missy is rotten to the core! Ralph has made a little bed for her up on his computer desk. She sleeps there on one of his old tee shirts while he plays his games, her head resting on the top of his keyboard! I think he likes her! (Update: My computerphobic husband has become a game player! *G*)
Missy has turned into quite the little performer too. She will jump for a snack, and is up to a record 9 spins (standing on her hind legs) for snacks also. I was a little concerned about the jumping, but she seems to understand that this is only a game for snacks. She is very trustworthy. I have a three year old grandson, and she has never tried to grab or pick up his snacks, and believe me, she has had the opportunity! Her only problem is that she thinks she is a pit bull and will take on anything! A real toughie!
This is from Ranger, our Aunt Sandi's Peke. It's for Missy because she has developed such an attitude!
Cody is a success story too! He has finally found his barker! After a visit to the Vet, we knew that it would be up to us to teach him to bark! The Dr. assured us that he would be able to bark eventually, that there was nothing physically wrong with him. That was good news. Well, I couldn't stand to watch him sit with his head high, and try so hard to bark. He would make all the motions, but nothing would come out. Ever watch a dog try to mime a bark. It is pathetic!
Everyday for about 2 weeks straight. Every time I saw him struggling to bark, I would make a barking noise. He would try to copy me, and on it would go for several minutes each time, many times everyday! After about 8 days, I heard noise! It wasn't really what you would call a bark, but it was noise! Well, we worked even harder on trying to make our baby boy bark!
We felt so sorry for him! I am happy to say that our efforts paid off! Cody now has a fully functional barker! Now if he would just learn to hike his leg! *G*
Cody is very easily frightened. At the least little noise he runs for his kennel! Not exactly protective! *G* If you try to pick him up he will back up from you as if he is afraid. Even when he approaches you to be held, when you reach for him, he will shy away. He is fine if you pat your lap and call him up there. We are working on this problem. It would help if we knew what had caused him to be afraid. I can't imagine him having been hit, or anything. With the first couple of months of his life where they were, anything could have happened. I will keep you updated on his progress.
UPDATE!! Feb. 10, 1999 I looked out the window a few days ago and low and behold my big boy was peeing like a big dog! On every bush and high spot in the lawn! I think out little Cody Boy is going to be just fine!
Feb 1, 2000 Wow! Hard to believe a whole year has gone by! Well, let's see what is happening with the furballs...
Cody is still a "Chicken Little" but he puts the run on Missy if he thinks she is getting more treats than he is. It's funny because you know she knows what a coward he is but she backs right off! She on the other hand has become quite a brat! She demands attention. Not just a little either. She wants your complete undivided attention! And smart as a whip. I don't think we have ever had to spend more than just a few minutes teaching her anything. She picks right up on all the tricks we teach her. Cody picks up on the fact that if he looks cute long enough we will give in and he doesn't have to "work" for his treats!
